England Captain Ben Stokes Injured Ahead of Sri Lanka Tests

England captain Ben Stokes is facing a fitness concern ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka later this month after sustaining an injury while playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. Stokes, who pulled up while running between the wickets, was helped off the field during the match against Manchester Originals at Old Trafford.

The 33-year-old cricketer had made just two runs from four balls before being forced to retire hurt, with teammate Harry Brook stepping in to replace him. Stokes appeared to be clutching his left hamstring as he completed a quick single, showing signs of frustration before being assisted off the field by Superchargers staff.

If Stokes is unable to participate in England's upcoming matches, vice-captain Ollie Pope might step in to lead the team. Despite previously recovering from a knee injury, Stokes's current hamstring concern raises doubts about his availability for the Test series against Sri Lanka, which is set to begin on August 21.

The injury comes at a crucial time for England, who are also scheduled to play Australia in T20 and one-day international series in September. Stokes's absence could impact the team's performance, requiring them to adapt their strategies accordingly to maintain their competitive edge in the upcoming matches.
