Western Digital Unveils World's First 8TB SD Card and 16TB External SSD at Conference


Western Digital made waves at the 2024 Future of Memory and Storage Conference by unveiling the world's first 8TB SD card and a massive 16TB external SSD. The new 8TB SD card, featuring Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC), boasts lightning-fast transfer speeds of up to 100Mbps. This breakthrough in storage technology is a game-changer for consumers, especially professional photographers and videographers working with high resolutions and bitrates.

Casual photographers and even gamers can benefit from the enormous storage capacity offered by these new devices. With the 8TB SD card, a photographer could store an impressive 165,000 raw files at 24MP, while a gamer could fit a whopping 666 games at 12GB each on their device. Although pricing and release dates have not been confirmed yet, Western Digital is expected to provide more details soon.

In a similar vein, SanDisk, owned by Western Digital, has also made headlines with the introduction of the world's first 8TB SD card and a 4TB microSD card. These advancements in storage capacity push the boundaries of what is possible in the tech industry. While the exact cost of these high-capacity cards remains unknown, it is anticipated that they will come with a significant price tag.
